I know this may be hard to believe, but we were not placed here on earth just so we can pay bills and work a job we hate. I know, that’s crazy, right? In fact, you could say our purpose is to contribute to this planet and our fellow creatures (including you and me). Being one of the most intelligent beings to walk the planet, more is expected from us. You may be asking yourself, “What is my purpose or, how can I show up for my fellow man?” Well, I’m going to give you three simple ways to help identify your purpose.
Your purpose should be in service to others. Alexander Graham Bell invented the telephone in order to make communication easier for everyone. The Wright brothers discovered flight as a means of traveling fast. Steve Jobs, Henry Ford and many others became rich and famous worldwide because their aim was to better the planet with its creations and services.
Your purpose must be something that excites you. If you’ve watched our previous video, “How to Embrace failure,” then you know up front you’re not gonna get it right first try. In order to maintain enthusiasm through the trials, you have to be excited by what you’re doing. Not only that, but maintain excitement for WHY you’re doing it and stay focused on WHO you’re doing it more. It’s proven we show up the best for others than we do for ourselves.
Finally, your purpose should involve your talents. The thing we’re good at isn’t necessarily our purpose, but the skill set can be useful in pursuit of your purpose. Lets say your purpose is to uplift people and you’re good at writing. You can leverage your writing to create inspirational stories that can inspire millions. Perhaps you’re an amazing mechanic. You could create a service that benefits people with low income by fixing their cars at a lower rate.
